National Stroke Association is reaching new heights in stroke. As the preeminent organization committed to fighting stroke in this country, NSA is providing unprecedented national expertise and leadership for those at risk, suffering or recovering from this devastating condition.
Garnering attention in the public spotlight, NSA is aggressively taking steps to reduce the incidence and impact of stroke. We are the voice for stroke, and are working tirelessly to escalate stroke to the top of the national health agenda and create greater awareness for stroke prevention. We are in communities across the country helping people understand the urgency for symptom recognition. We are teaching them how to respond. We are partnering with professionals from a variety of disciplines to improve quality of care and patient outcomes.
Begun as a small but visionary organization in 1984, we set precedent by implementing the first-ever consensus statement on guidelines for stroke prevention, which was published in the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). Through our work, those guidelines are now considered the gold standard for health care providers who educate their patients at risk for stroke. NSA is breaking ground in stroke treatment by implementing new stroke center guidelines in American hospitals and developing centers of excellence. In the rehabilitation arena, we are forging closer alliances with facilities, support groups, survivors and their families and caregivers to provide best practices, services and advocacy on their behalf.
We, as a nation, can no longer allow stroke to be overlooked in terms of urgency, funding and priority. NSA is working to move stroke from its position as a leading cause of death and disability in the United States. This can only be accomplished with your support.
