The Center is a top level research facility with grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) and the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE).

The primary focus of the Center's research is statistical analysis of long term care for the population aged sixty-five and older.

Supplemental research is focusing on the relationship between brain physiology and Alzheimer's Disease

The Duke Center is a participant in the Behavioral and Social Research Program of the National Institute on Aging.
