The U.S. National Institutes of Health, through the National Library of Medicine, has launched a new site devoted to information on ongoing clinical trials. The site currently contains over 4,000 clinical studies involving patients and others at more than 47,000 locations nationwide. Currently the site includes studies sponsored primarily by the National Institutes of Health, but additional studies from other Federal agencies and the pharmaceutical industry will be added during the upcoming year.
The site provides professionals, patients, families and members of the public easy access to information about the location of clinical trials, their design and purpose, criteria for participation, and further information about the disease and treatment under study, including publications which lead to the implementation of the study. Studies which are recruiting patients are flagged, and there is contact information provided for people interested in participating in the study.
